After some visiting with my parents we all took a nap. After the nap we were ready to go!
Emmett and I went to lunch with my mom and some of her friends that were celebrating her upcoming birthday. They enjoyed seeing Emmett in real life (usually it's just pictures) and we enjoyed trying a new (to me) local restaurant. After lunch we went and visited with Jim's parents. The weather was beautiful and Emmett enjoyed swinging, playing with a balloon, ball and bat, and rolling in the grass (sort of) with Grandpa. Then it was back to my parents' home, our hosts for the first half of the trip.
On Friday we were looking forward to going to story time at the library. We stopped and played at a park first and we were treated to a train passing by. Emmett is currently quite interested in trains (we have been loving "Freight Train" by Donald Crews) and his facination really grew on our trip. Story time was so fun and interactive. Afterwards we went home for Emmett to nap. My mom stayed with him and Jim and I did some shopping downtown and got gelato. After nap time we tried out another park and then picked my brother up from his music class. We also stopped by a consignment shop and scored a barely used umbrella stroller for $6, something we were hoping to buy on our trip since we didn't bring our big stroller.
Back home again Ryan played with his nephew and then we headed outside to work in the yard.
Saturday morning we went back to Jim's parents' home to spend some time with our sweet nephew and niece. Winn and Audrey are so much fun and sure know how to love on their nephew (who adores them!).
They spent the morning looking for lizards and playing. While Emmett napped we played Apples to Apples and they introduced us to the game Blokus. After lunch Beth (Jim's sister) got back from her photoshoot and the kids had some more time to play.
They had a birthday party to get to, and we headed back home. My mom and I went to Trader Joe's (new to Corvallis) to get some favorite items there.
Sunday was my mom's birthday and we went to church with my parents and brother. We had a quick picnic afterwards so that we could hit the road for Eugene. We picked Mikaylee up at her sorority and drove by the apartment she has reserved for next year. She was super tired from being up all night at Relay for Life, for which she was the Event Coordinator.
We went to a nice park/nature preserve that was having a plant "festival". We took a nice hike and then took in the sights/sounds/smells of a true Eugene Hippie Fest.
Then we went to the 5th Street Public Market for some shopping and dinner nearby. After dinner we parted ways, my mom, Jim, Emmett and I headed for the beach and my Grandma's house. After some visiting we turned in for the night.
Monday morning we woke up to bright skies and headed for the beach. We hadn't been expecting very good weather, so we were very pleasantly surprised. It was breezy and the sun felt warm. Emmett enjoyed playing in the sand, flying a kite, seeing creatures in the tide pools, getting his toes wet and watching the waves. We sure took the beach for granted, growing up so close to it.
More pictures and memories to come...when I have a bit more time!
