Biking in the Tetons

We have gotten busy with soccer and have had a mix of warm spring weather and cold and rainy spring weather.  We have visited baby sheep and goats, played at a couple parks, gone to the library, gone to the zoo and worked in our yard.  Emmett got a new bike and we passed his old one down to Ezra which made a huge difference.  Ezra hadn't been wanting to ride his "pedal bike", still preferring the strider.  After getting Emmett's old bike he absolutely took off and asks to go on bike rides every single day.

We had a chance to go to Grand Teton National Park this past Saturday after Emmett's soccer game.  The weather was iffy and we didn't really want to ride in the rain, but we also were really needing a family adventure.  We went for it and are so glad we did.  The weather was better than what was forecasted and even though the mountains were cloaked in clouds, we had a great time.  The road is only open to pedestrians through April and opens to cars May 1.  In the last few years they have put a nice bike path in, so we could probably bike any time of year now safely as a family.  But there is something fun about having the road to yourself.

We probably should have ridden a little further, no one got too worn out, but we thought rain was coming so we headed back.  Ezra rode about 3.7 miles and Jim had to give him a few pushes (but it was a slight uphill with a headwind).  He started asking to get in the trailer so we attached his bike to the trailer and he snuggled in with Elliott for the trip back to the car.  Elliott wasn't as happy as he usually is on "trailer rides", we had to let him out for a while to regroup.  We had a slight downhill with a tailwind on the way back and Emmett was able to hit just over 20 MPH.
Elliott is holding Ezra's ear, which he also did in our family pictures last summer!

After our ride we went on a bit of a scenic loop drive and then stopped at the Jackson visitor center.  We went out to dinner and then drove out on the National Elk Refuge to see the Big Horned Sheep.  I think we saw nearly 40 sheep.  It started to rain and get dark, so we headed for home.

Visitor Center, Elliott thought all the animals were pretty amazing, said "moo" and didn't want to get too close

Love the way Elliott holds Ezra's ear! Hope Ezra doesn't mind! You guys live in such a wonderful part of the country with so many experiences so readily available. And its so neat how you take the opportunity to enjoy them!
