We had an amazing trip to Maui! Jim felt well for the trip and was able to participate quite fully. He was a little more nervous about the ocean and didn’t feel quite confident enough to snorkel. Elliott was also a little nervous about snorkeling, but Emmett, Ezra, and I did quite a bit of snorkeling. We also rented a couple boogie boards and had a lot of fun doing that and body surfing. We used Elliott’s free 4th grade national park pass to visit Haleakala National Park and went from sea level to 10,023 feet. We had amazing views up there and it was much clearer than when Jim and I had been there 14 years earlier. We watched people surf, kiteboard, and windsurf. We saw tons of turtles, both sunning on land and swimming in the ocean. We saw at least one humpback whale breach from quite a long distance away and we also saw 2 manta rays from shore. We enjoyed a hike in the northern mountains and seeing a completely different part of the island. Emmett and Ezra were both brave enough to jump off Black Rock into the ocean multiple times. We also really enjoyed the free hula show at the Shops at Wailea. My parents were troopers and happy to tag along on all our adventures and they also took each boy out on a date. I think it will be a very memorable trip for all of us.
