Harriman

On Saturday we spent a fun-filled day at Harriman State Park. A group from our church was there for the weekend, and we decided a day trip might be best for our family. After such a great day we are hoping to spend the whole weekend there next year. The historic, updated ranch buildings are available for group use, including multiple lodging options and a group kitchen and dining area. It is a mile from the parking lot to the buildings, so you either cross country ski or snowshoe in and pull in whatever you need in sleds.

We got to borrow a sled to pull Emmett in and he did pretty good once we got going. Our good friends the Topliffs were there for the weekend, so after we skied in and had some lunch, we piled both boys in the sled for a scenic loop. It was a tight fit, which Emmett didn't seem too thrilled about, but Gideon was sure a trooper!

It is really beautiful there the way the river winds through and there is a view of the Tetons. The river is frequented by Trumpeter Swans which we saw plenty of.

Both boys fell asleep on the loop, which was pretty cute. Jim was quite the pack mule to pull them around. Neither of us are as sore as we were expecting to be.

We got talked into staying for dinner (it wasn't very hard to be convinced) and enjoyed fellowship with people from our church that we really haven't gotten to know before. Emmett LOVED all the attention, especially from all the big kids. Dave had his guitar along and was very patient to allow Emmett to strum with the pick. He seems to think Emmett has real talent, impressed that he would strum so carefully. We finally left about 8pm and skiied out in the dark. We had headlamps, but a mile in the pitch black woods was kind of freaky!

Emmett was perhaps a bit overstimulated as he slept terribly last night. But it was worth it, and he is catching up with some good naps today! We had a great time and I can't wait for next year! Thanks for inviting us Topliffs, and everyone else who let us mooch!
