Oregon in July (continued)

On Monday we hit the beach. It was a little breezy, but we found a sheltered area and the sun was nice and warm. Emmett really enjoyed playing in the sand with Grandpa, Dad and Cousins. He was not very excited about the water, and I really can't blame him. It was windy by the water and the ocean was freezing. When we walked back to the car he found a stream to splash in and could have stayed and played a lot longer there. After mostly de-sanding ourselves we headed for some yummy seafood. We got back to the valley early Monday evening so that I could get together with my dear friend Amy who was in town from California.

Tuesday morning we spent the morning hanging around Jim's parents house. It was perfect weather to be outside and Emmett thoroughly enjoyed the sprinkler. After naptime we headed up to Salem to see Aunt Beth, Winn and Audrey. Auntie Mikaylee made her way down from Portland and met us there. The day got pretty hot, but by evening it was pleasant and we went to a park that had a splash pad. It was Emmett's first splash pad experience and he loved it (and hated to leave it).

Wednesday we moved over to my parent's. We took Emmett to a fountain in downtown Corvallis. He and Mikaylee had fun in the water. We also went to the mid-week farmers market. In the evening Ryan came over and we had nice dinner. We attempted to get a group picture since they are few and far between.

Thursday Jim and his Dad and my Dad went fishing. Mikaylee and I took Emmett to the park with the steam engine. While Emmett napped Mikaylee and I went and got pedicures. In the afternoon we headed to Costco and did some other shopping.

Friday was the first day of "Crazy Days", big sales downtown. My mom and I went early and had a little luck. The find of the day was some slightly used Keen trail shoes for Jim at $20. My mom and I continued to shop and Emmett spent some quality time with Jim. My mom got Ryan's Brio train stuff out and Emmett LOVED playing with the trains. Jim and I had fun setting up the track in different configurations.

Saturday morning we bought a car-top carrier off Craigslist. It's pretty bad when you have to buy extra storage for the trip home. Actually we would have been fine without it, but we had been looking into buying one and it came up on Craigslist in the right place, right time, right price. So now we can continue driving our beloved Subaru wagons and have more storage for trips.

After our purchase we met my Mom, Ryan, Emmett, and Jim's parents at the Philomath Frolic parade. It's a fun small town parade that I remember from my childhood, mostly from all the candy that is handed out. Emmett seemed to enjoy all the big trucks (there was quite the "history of log trucks"). After lunch we loaded up and headed to Mt. Hood. My Aunt and Uncle recently built a beautiful home up there and we got to stay with them, which put us a bit closer to home in the process.

We got to see some of their property, had a yummy dinner, slept in a beautiful room (and Emmett had his own too) and were pretty much spoiled! Jim attempted a star trail shot from the balcony in the night. The camera battery died during the longer exposure one, but he did manage to get one.

We got up early Sunday morning and drove home. We only stopped twice, at our favorite McDonalds in LaGrande (good clean play area and not busy) and in Jerome, ID at Sonic. We got Emmett's lawn mower out at Sonic and let him play with it in the grass. After a few "aww how cute" from cars going past, a lady who worked at Sonic brought Emmett a free ice cream cone because they thought he was so cute.

It was a great trip, but as usual it is nice to be home.
