Spray Park and Bike Race

On Friday we ventured out to the spray park. We went there once last summer and were excited to see how Emmett would like it this year. I wasn't entirely sure it was still there because they built a new water park at a different location and there was a rumor circulating that they closed this down. I'm so glad we took a chance and drove up there, and that the rumor wasn't true!
Emmett is still very cautious. You wouldn't know by how crazy and silly he can get, but get him in a new and different situation and he is clingy and cautious. He warmed up to the idea of getting wet, but we couldn't convince him to go down the slide.
Hopefully we will get up there a few more times and he will get brave enough to do the slide. I know he would have a blast
We went up in the morning and took a picnic lunch. We left to get home in time for a nap, but Emmett fell asleep in the car mid-snack.
Saturday evening was the bike race that Emmett has been waiting for! He has been telling us that he wants to race whenever we go to Jim's races. Our local twilight criterium has kids races for three different age groups. So Emmett and his friend Gideon joined the 0-4 year olds for a one block race.
There were quite a few kids...luckily Emmett had his wipeout before the race and stayed up for the whole block. He was really disappointed that the race was so short.
It was pretty cute to watch, the kids had all sorts of different wheels.
At the end the kids were all awarded medals. Then we watched the 5-9 year olds, the the 9-12 year olds and then multiple groups of adults by category. We had a picnic dinner and a nice wide section of sidewalk with friends. Emmett and Gideon had a great time running back and forth, cheering for the bikes (and especially the motorcycle), and being generally crazy. We had a great cheering section for Jim's race. It was quite different than any racing he's done before. He managed to stay with the lead pack and picked up a prime win. He got gift certificates to two differnt places for the prime win. Overall Jim was 7th in his category.
