My Three Year Old

Emmett, you are three! Your imagination has blossomed this year, it is so fun to watch you "play pretend." You love to watch "videos" which we stream to the computer, we have to limit your time which you don't appreciate now. In a Caillou episode you saw firefighters named Eric and Stacy, and you quickly adopted the name Eric for yourself and Stacy for me. You let Dad be Sparky the fire dog, and Ezra is just Ezra. You have even told strangers that your name is Eric. To get you out the door quickly I just "sound the alarm" and you go down the slide and pretend to get your gear on. Then you run out to the "fire truck." Your favorite color is blue, and more recently light blue. You became a big brother this year and you do it well. You moved up to the "threes" class at daycare in March. You still love to read with us and have started listening to books on tape sometimes at bedtime. You are still attached to your green blanket, you mostly use it at bedtime but sometimes in the day if you get hurt or need extra comfort. You succeeded in potty training this year without too much trouble. You sleep pretty well at night, usually about 11 hours and take a good afternoon nap. Sometimes your legs hurt and that wakes you up. You like to cuddle with me in the morning and you want oatmeal (with cinnamon) almost every morning. Sometimes at the dinner table you sing us new songs that you have learned. You love musical instruments, especially guitar and drums. You play your air guitar during worship at church. You loved going to Daddy's bike races this year and even got to enter one yourself. You got really good at climbing up different play structures and going down slides. You love to make your brother smile and giggle. Loud noises still make you nervous. You continue to dislike meat. You love peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, homemade macaroni and cheese, minestrone soup, and all fruit. You ride your strider bike quickly, coasting down hills and balancing when Dad pushes you. We are excited to move you up to a pedal bike. You love to be outside with Daddy, mowing the lawn, killing spiders or getting your tools out to help him fix something. You entertain your brother when I need an extra minute and in the car. You ask "why" a lot. You have said a lot of funny things this year and I haven't written nearly enough down, but you always make us smile. We love you more than we knew was possible.
At your three year check you were 29lb 2oz (25th %) and 35.5 inches (10th %). Dr. Moore told you that eating meat would be a healthy thing to do. He also said that watching too many videos isn't good and that you need to play a lot. When we got home and told Grandma about the visit and said that the Dr. said to limit videos, we asked you what he said you should do instead. You told her that you should eat lots of meat. When you were eating your pizza at your birthday party you asked me what was on it. I told you it was sauce, cheese, canadian bacon and pineapple. You told me that you didn't like the canadian bacon, but when I pointed out that it was meat and that Dr. Moore told you that it would be good for you to eat it, you started eating it.
