Spring has really sprung here. I don't know that we've ever had a weekend this nice in March since we have lived here (It's been almost 8 years since Jim started his job here). Speaking of Jim, just in case you thought we forgot his birthday, we didn't. But he did sort of get pushed to the side with it being Ezra's first birthday. I didn't realize how close their birthdays really were, I guess last year when I was 9 months pregnant I didn't think about that. I had a cake that I wanted to make for him, but we were sort of all caked out (it really happens) so we waited a couple of weeks. It was worth waiting for, a chocolate peanut butter reeeses cake.
To better illustrate this crazy weather we all went outside Thursday evening after work to BBQ and work in the garden. We found that there was some return spinach in the garden and Jim had it with his dinner. He is trying to be more healthy and less picky as part of his bike training regimen. We occasionally BBQ outside in bad weather, but for us all to go outside and to work the soil in the garden this early, let alone find living plant life is just short of amazing.
This beautiful weather coincided with Emmett's half birthday. We aren't big half birthday people, but our hobbies and lives really revolve around the seasons here. With how Emmett and Ezra's birthdays are spaced it just seems like their need for seasonal gear coincides with half birthdays. So anyways we bought this bike from a neighbor around Christmas but decided to wait to give it to Emmett. It has stayed hidden while Jim has lovingly tuned it up. We hid it under some blankets outside for Emmett to "unwrap" on Friday.
It has some cool spiders on it and he was thrilled to have a "spider-man" bike. He has never really pedaled since he had his strider bike (not even a tricycle) so we thought he might need some practice pedaling. The plan is to skip training wheels. Jim set up his old trainer for Emmett and he was excited to do a "training ride" like Jim has been doing all winter in the basement.
Ezra benefits from the upgrade as well, inheriting the strider bike. Here he is with his new ride. Maybe by later this summer he'll be a stable enough walker to try it out. Ezra pretty much stays contained on the blanket while we're outside which is AMAZING for his personality. I don't think it will last much longer, but we're enjoying blanket prison while it lasts.
On Saturday we went up to the mountain for the last ski of the season. Perfect spring skiing day. It was so warm and nice. Ezra got set down a lot more this time to explore and he enjoyed eating some snow. Emmett said he was tired of skiing at lunch time so we made it a half day.

What a fun post! That's really funny about the spinach! This seems really early for spring for you guys. My snow flattened daffodills were standing upright today when we got home . . . a nice surprise.
The cake looks wonderful!
