We decided take advantage of the extra long weekend with a road trip to visit Jim's Aunt and Uncle in Montana. We packed the car Thursday night and headed out Friday morning. We stopped at the Patagonia Outlet in Dillon, MT and then ate lunch at a fun little local place accross the street.
Phillipsburg, MT
Our next stop was in Philipsburg. Jim has a lot of great memories about vacations to this area, visting the candy store and mining for sapphires.
At the candy store we let Emmet pick out some candy. It was an easy decision for him. Even though we tried to convince him that he wanted to pick out an assorment, Emmett was set on a huge lollipop.
We drove from Phillipsburg over the Skalkaho pass. It was really smokey in the Bitterroot valley which made a unique opportunity for Jim to photograph the sun.

The smoke also made for an especially colorful sunset.

On Saturday we took a trip down to the RC airplane flying field that Uncle Rick frequents. We all had a great time watching him and other fly thier planes. We even got to watch the maiden flight for a plane that took about 20 years to complete and an acrobatic helicopter that did loops and flew upside down.
Fun watching the model "airplane show".
After the airfield we stopped by the river to throw some rocks into the water.
Every boys dream - an endless supply of rocks and water to throw them into!
We packed up on Sunday morning and did some quick shopping in Missoula on our way out of town. It was nice to have Monday off to get things done around the house. It was a quick trip but a fun one.
