Jim was in his first road bike race today. It was also his first bike race in about 13 years. He has been training the last month or so and tried to keep in shape over the winter which is always a struggle. He has to either go out and cross country ski or ride his bike on the trainer in the basement.

Elise, Emmett, and Ezra came and watched the entire race. Emmett was great at clapping and saying "Go Dad!"
The course was a "circuit course". There was a 1.2 mile neutral rollout followed by a 4.5 mile rolling climb to the circuit. The circuit was 7.3 miles long with 750 feet of climbing per lap. Jim's category did 4.5 laps for a total of 4250 feet of climbing over 40 miles.

When Jim was mountain bike racing he always kept his stats for the race. Here are the stats for this race:
- Distance: 40 miles
- Time: 2 hours 11 minutes (not including the neutral rollout)
- Max speed: 51.6 mph (750 feet of climbing rewarded by a fast decent)
- Average speed: 17.3 mph
- Place: 11 of 26
Jim worked together with Ken (on the right), one of the guys he rides a lot with. Here is Ken crossing the finish line at the top of the climb.
