I just couldn't resist ordering some matching clothes for the boys! Please don't look too close because Emmett's face is a mess. So cute!
This weekend we took a mini-vacation to Bear Lake, AKA the Caribbean of the Rockies. I have been craving a road trip and Jim has been interested in doing some more bike racing, so we combined the two for a fun little trip. Packing up was fairly easy, although fitting a large cooler, food, the big stroller, Jim's bike and bike stuff, Emmett's bike, and suitcases was a little tight. We left Friday around noon and besides the bathroom breaks for a potty training toddler it was a pleasant 3 hour drive. We stayed in a beautiful condo that is part of my parents time share membership.
After checking in and unpacking we had a fellow racer and his wife over for dinner. After dinner we went to the pool. There was a great wading pool that was 2 feet deep for Emmett to enjoy in addition to the regular pool and hot tub.
Saturday morning we headed a few miles down the road to the start of the race. Jim's group, the CAT 5 34 and under had 44 riders. It was a pretty big race, around 300 riders all together. They raced around the lake, 52 miles. The pro riders did two laps. It wasn't a great spectator race, so after watching Jim's group take off we headed to a park to play.

It was a beautiful day and the park had fun swings and slides. We also watched a woodpecker in a tree. We knew that it should take about 2 hours for the racers to complete a lap. After getting lots of energy out we went to the final corner. I thought they would be going slow enough around the corner for Emmett to recognize his Dad. After the corner there was a 6/10 of a mile flat and straight sprint to the finish. We watched lots of riders go by (Jim's group started 2nd to last) and I saw Jim but I'm not sure that Emmett really could recognize him. Emmett was cheering like crazy for all the riders! Jim was about 6th in a group of 12 or so around the corner. The groups had intermixed enought that I had no idea if this was the lead pack. Turns out that it was the lead pack and Jim did a great job sprinting, working his way up to the front and getting passed right at the end. He got second place in his race and won a nice tire!
Bear Lake is famous for their raspberries, so for lunch we had burgers, fries and a raspberry shake. Then it was time for a nap while Jim went to the awards ceremony. In the late afternoon we went to the pool again. The town was pretty taken over by cyclists, most the people we saw around were racers....never saw so many men with shaved legs in one place!
Bear Lake is known as the Caribbean of the Rockies beacause of the color of the water. It is really beautiful and there are some nice sandy beaches. It was pretty quiet since it was so early in the season.
While we were at the pool there was a thunder storm and then a rainbow appeared when we were walking back.
After diffusing a huge tantrum (Emmett loved the pool, hated to leave...unfortunatley that meant no pool on Sunday), we had dinner and watched Toy Story 3. Jim and I tried to watch another movie after the boys were in bed, but just couldn't stay awake. I haven't said much about Ezra...he was a trooper, slept well, ate well, seemed to enjoy himself. He got a little stuffed up at night, but his snoring seemed to bother us more than him.
This morning we made crepes and packed up. We drove through Logan Canyon which was pretty, lots of snow still. We stopped at a park for lunch and got home with plenty of time to get unpacked, do some yard work and get ready for the week ahead.
