This weekend we took a trip to Montana. We were able to visit Jim's Aunt and Uncle, who are such gracious hosts to us. We drove up on Friday and had lunch in Dillon and spent some time shopping at the Patagonia outlet there. It is exactly half way and a perfect stop for us. Emmett was a good little traveler, he slept 2/3 of the trip and was a little fussy from teething the other 1/3 of the time. We had dinner and visited with Uncle Rick and Aunt Rosie that evening.
Saturday morning Rick took us to the flying field where he flies RC planes. It was Emmett's normal time for a nap so he slept most the time, but got to watch for about 20 minutes. There are quite a few people that fly some pretty cool planes there and Emmett was able to track a loud gas powered one in the air and was pointing.
In the afternoon we went and did some shopping in Missoula. The timing of the trip was for my friend and former co-worker Brooke's wedding. Brooke was the OIT student the year before me at St. Pat's in Missoula, and she helped make my externship a great year. She took a job there after her externship and has been there ever since. It was a great wedding...they really know how to party there! It was really fun to catch up with all my old co-workers/mentors. We don't have any pictures of the wedding, but close by there is a carousel and we stopped there for a quick ride.
Emmett was pretty serious about the ride, but didn't seem scared. There was a small fire in the bitterroot mountains across the valley from where Jim's Aunt and Uncle live. Saturday the wind picked up and when we headed back after the wedding the fire looked like it was really raging. Jim took some pictures. It reminded us of when we lived in Missoula and could watch a forest fire from our apartment as it engulfed each individual tree.
Sunday we were sort of lazy and visited with Rick and Rosie. Emmett had a hard time sleeping in a strange environment, which was really hard for us since he has done so good in the night for the past few months. We left around 3 to capitalize on Emmett's afternoon nap. Emmett only slept 1/4 of the way home, but he did AWESOME being awake. I sat back with him after he woke up and I was sort of amazed at how many games we could play to keep him occupied. Before we left Rick and Rosie gave us a rocking chair that Rick used when he was a kid. It was really cute, and Emmett liked it immediately. We have a really comfy rocking chair in the nursery, so he is used to rocking with me, and thought it was pretty cool to rock by himself. We were impressed to see him get on and off the chair on his own. He isn't walking yet, but seems pretty close, often standing with his toys without holding on.
